The Balconette Bra

Hands down, I believe the balconette bra is the best choice for a boudoir photo session.  Not only do they enhance the appearance of your breasts, the clean lines of the tell-tale horizontal cut of the cups makes for a very pleasing aesthetic.

Over the past decade or so there’s been a “dirtying of the water” you could say as to what a balconette bra is.  Many stores will now classify a demi-cup bra as a balconette.  When shopping for one, remember that this style of bra got it’s name because it creates a balcony for your breasts to rest on.  Who ever heard of a balcony with steep angles like a demi-cup and other styles of bras have?

Another element of a balconette bra is that, when properly fitted, the straps will sit wider, closer to the edge of your shoulders.  Don’t worry, they won’t slide off.  The straps are the way they are because of where they connect to the frame (front) of the bra.  The straps on balconette bras generally attach on the side, closer to your underarm, than on other styles of bras.

Finally, balconette bras rely more on the shape of the cups for the effect they produce than they do any kind of extra padding like you find in a push-up bra.  The cups are cut low so you can show off more of your chest and create a look similar to that of a bustier or corset.

If you’d like to try a balconette bra, and I really think you should, Amazon has the best selection that I’ve found so far; unfortunately the local stores have been hit or miss and conflate the balconette style with a demi-cup.
